Make Chispa Healthy Again...

Postby Loren » Thu Feb 14, 2019 1:04 pm

Started the car, warmed it up to put some degreaser on the engine. Drove it around for a bit to sling the water out of little crevices and such after I was done hosing it off.

It's weird. Knowing that one cylinder doesn't have enough compression to fire, you know exactly what's going on with it. Idling, you can smell LOTS of raw fuel from the exhaust. And it starts and idles fine... but, you can tell that it's just a little lumpy. Even more so just off idle when you start driving.

What's weird is that for however miles it's racked up in this condition... it's not smoking yet. I would think that all of that unburned fuel in a cylinder would be washing the oil from the cylinder walls and causing all sorts of ring sealing problems... leading to smoke. I guess it's just not there yet. For it to have almost no compression, that means its GOT to be a valve problem.

We'll have to yank the head off and have a peak once we've got the new engine in.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.

I'll bring the 19mm crank pulley socket on sat if it isn't disassembled by then. For some reason honda crank pulley bolts self tighten over time so a heavy ass 19mm socket is needed to pull them off.

I've got a half-inch drive 19mm impact socket, and an air impact gun. We'll show it who's boss.

Rob,
So you'll know. Soraya ripped SCCA a new one in her class and PAX awhile back with the boneyard/FAST motor. I talked to her and she was "holding back". Winner. Winners don't always win but they learn from their setbacks.
