Big Groj Weekend - June 22/23 @ Loren's

Postby Loren » Mon Jun 10, 2019 5:02 pm

We got stuff to do! And if you've got stuff to do, or you just want to come hang out, you're welcome to join us!

Saturday will be primarily working on the Miata paint project. Prepping a replacement door. More wet-sanding on the body. Maybe color spraying the inner edges of the new door and some small parts.

Sunday can be more of that if Chris is up for a second day. But, primarily, Steve and I need to spend a day doing some work on one of our driving school cars. New shocks & struts, and a swaybar upgrade (yes, I'm putting a bigger front swaybar on my driver's ed car... I *do* have to drive the thing every day! It's just a larger stock option). It's probably due for an oil change and a whole bunch of inspection. It's got a clunk that could be either a control arm bushing or an engine mount... gotta figure that out.

Since we'll be at it all weekend, I'm open to larger projects if you've got anything you need to do. Maaaaybe a clutch job, timing belt job, that sort of thing. Just make sure you have all of your parts together and either know what you're doing, or bring someone with you who does. I can help some, but I'll be busy doing other stuff.

Cathy will surely bake us something tasty, and likely Gluten Free (because Steve). (side note: The Oatmeal Raisin cookies she baked last weekend were gluten free, and they were awesome!) And lunch will always happen.

WHEN: Saturday, June 22 AND Sunday, June 23 - 9:30am - 4:30pm

WHAT: Miata body work, Kia Rio maintenance work... or perhaps whatever YOU need to do as long as it's nothing major. I have plenty of driveway space, tools and knowledge. Fluid changes, brakes, other minor maintenance are all doable.

WHERE: My garage in Safety Harbor, PM me if you need the address.

WHO: Me and Chris at a minimum, and Steve on Sunday. Anyone else is welcome to come watch & learn, help, hang out, heckle, whatever.

Please reply if you plan to attend. And if you have any work to do, that would also be good to know. 8-)

Still on for two days this weekend. Mostly Miata on Saturday. Mostly Kia on Sunday. Open to doing other stuff, of course.

I think Aaron may be coming by Sunday to play with alignment on the Miata Kart.

Just me, Chris and Dan Brentnall today... except... we migrated to Joe's Garage to do some welding, and got some help from Joe, too! :notworthy:

Did a bunch of work fixing that stupid crack on the driver's door bar. Ended up sticking with the original door. Done with that diversion... I think we're back on track!

Tomorrow we'll be working on the Kia... and maybe on Aaron's Miata Kart.

The cookie menu consists of today's Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip cookies... and tomorrow's Gluten Free Mexican Double Chocolate cookies, which are awesome!

I think the Mexican chocolate cookies have a touch of Cayenne in them. It's sort of like Cinnamon, just a little more kick, but not a lot.

Sunday was productive. Got all the maintenance caught up on the Kia. New shocks, new rear brake pads, oil change, and even a bigger front swaybar. EVERY car needs a bigger front swaybar, right? Okay, the Rio and the Accent are the same chassis... the Rio has a 20mm bar (with a 22 on the "sporty" package) and the Accent has a 23mm bar. Steve and I both like the feel of the Accent better, and I got the bar for under $50 shipped, so why not? Don't judge me!

We also got the alignment somewhat sorted on the rear of the Miata kart, and Aaron pretty well trained on how to deal with his own "casual" alignments.
