But now, you are saying a turbo 1.6 is competitive with a 1.8?
Under our relatively loose rule set? I'm saying that all else being equal, a turbo 1.6 is more than capable of spanking most 1.8's handily. It only takes 6 PSI to get 150hp (crank) out of a 1.6 Miata engine with a very simple turbo setup, and that engine will tolerate 10-12 psi easily... 180-200 or more is still pretty conservative output. Except for a few 1.8's that rev to insane rpm (and have no torque), not too many 1.8's put out that kind of power.
That was what I was trying to say. I was suggesting to increase the penalty for forced induction from 1 class bump to 2.

So turbo 1.6 would go to M1.
Chris's NC would go to M0.
Charles's 240 would go to M1.
Mark's miata to M0
Juan's rx-8 to M0

This might boost the dying m0 class too.
Since the Mazdaspeed Miata is already in M1, say that boost can't be altered on a factory turbo car, if you do than that would be a 1 class bump, then he would slot in with Chris's NC in M0.
But if he leaves his boost stock he can stay in m1 and play with a turbo 1.6.

Shoot holes in that idea while I enjoy a burger.
How would you measure (or demonstrate) power and weight? And where does "believable" come into it? Sounds like a fancy way of saying "guess".

Cover me, I'm goin' in: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1618

Jeremy... you're assuming that all turbos are created equal and that every setup will respond the same. I don't think that's the case at all. (and there are no truly good solutions)

Jamie... yes, "guess". But, educated guess. I'm proposing putting the limits far enough out that a ballpark "guess" should be good enough. If someone asks for a power-based downgrade and we're not convinced, and whoever we consult about it also isn't convinced that the car in question meets the limit... we simply won't do it.

Gonna redirect this conversation to the new topic for clarity. This thread has served its purpose, I think this is the only issue that has come up that anyone has any concern about. Lockin' it.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.
Suck Less - Drive something resembling a proper racing line.
