What would you have driven? Your corvette holds the record for sonic disturbance at a FAST event.

I know you could have co driven something there.

I appreciate all the offers I had to flog other people's cars. Should have a brand new set of bypass hoses by the weekend, so I can drain the 3-week-old coolant (with mandatory spillage) and put new stuff in 15 minutes later.

This was my favorite course so far, although my tires didn't quite agree. New set coming in tomorrow.

Wow Heather, I hope you were able to make it home on those tires! If you continue to autocross as much as you have been, a wise investment would be a custom performance alignment with more negative camber. Not only will you have more grip, but you'll get less of that extreme wear on the outside edge.

:pointlaugh: All I have to do to get beat by anyone in either of my cars is let Loren or Steve or just about anyone who's competent drive them. Not the sharpest tool in the shed anymore and most folks think they are pretty much dialed in now. I like watching videos of fast drivers. I hold my old leftover mustang steering wheel strapped in a chair and pretend I can go that fast with the correct line and everything

El Andrew knows I'm just playing with him. He knows he beat me by .3 seconds in my "quietest" car on a 3rd gear Corvette Club course. Bet if I spring for that XS exhaust I could get really slow and deaf too at the same time which kind of defeats the cool tailpipe noises concept :dunno:

**I had a Honda Accord once. ONLY car I ever painted (won't do that again). Flipped it for a tidy profit. Owned 2 CRX's. Flipped them for a very very tidy profit. I like Hondae :thumbwink:

Hi Ben, thanks for the tip! Any recommendations on where to get a 'custom performance alignment'?

That tire is totally messed up. The tread let go.
What brand and type please. So I never buy one.

Thanks,

Doug

Appears to be a 2015 model Michelin pilot Supersport. That event was harder on my bfg rivals than probably all 4 Brooksville events I've done this year combined. Nasty gravel if you got just slightly off line. Had a great time though, wish my good time didn't have a cone in my way lol

They are Michelin Pilot Super Sport, arguably the best street tire available. The shred is no fault to the tire, but noob driving error. I attended the FAST Autocross school in Oct ’15, before I paid the first note on my car. My pit crew (hubs) and I were new to Autocross and hadn’t learned the golden rule of tire pressure yet. So, after a full day of skid pad and slalom on stock air pressure during the class, the tires had uneven, corrupt wear on them. Add 8500 commute miles and 8 days of Autocross racing, the last being 16 runs, the tires didn’t have a chance. Thankfully Cupid gifted a new set. Doesn’t every girl want wider rubber for Valentine’s Day?

For the record I won't buy another set of PSS for my Vette. They cost as much as the best race rubber and the last 5/32" of rubber went away faster than ice in FL. When I got to the wear bars the outer edge corded like the vulcanization (bonding) failed exposing the virgin cord on the fronts but only in a 3" length. Yours looks like a failed recap off a truck. I always had proper autocrossing tire pressure. Something wrong with the compound being too weak? Stick good but don't last.

My wife is actually going to an autocross with me VD but nice dinner reservation for sure afterwards!! Are we showing our age?

Thanks,

Doug

I am very picky about finding ppl who know their stuff and seldom do "endorsements" but I can recommend Advance Performance Wheels and Tires
(4011 West Linebaugh Ave.) without reservations. They are my tire and suspension crew. They patiently explain anything I ask them about, and I am *always* full of questions. All the guys are car enthusiasts.

Guillermo is their alignment guy. Don't be fooled by his quiet and unassuming demeanor *he knows his stuff*. He aligns according to your vehicle's purpose (in my case, balance between daily driving ~14-15K miles a year and autocrossing the snot out of the little beast). Between Guillermo and the owner, Mike, I've learned a lot about alignment, suspension components and how things work in my vehicle compared to others.

As for tires, when I only had one set of wheels/tires I drove on Yokohama Advan AD08R because I needed something that could handle rain/wet roads. They lasted longer than I expected and were a good tire for me to learn on. I also was recommended several in the Continental "Contact" line of tires but I couldn't find what I wanted in my wheel size.

Tires are like good shoes - the right ones make a whole world of difference...

i was shocked at the wear from the last event too, glad I rotated my tires a few days before the event, looks like my kumhos probably wont last me as long as the ZIISS.

I was chasing your time and you got me again by a couple tenths! I can't imagine how you'll do with real grip!

I haven't personally gone to either of these shops, but they both come highly recommended.

Top secret method of keeping new 10/32" street tires from chunking.
Squirming builds heat in new tires.
6/32" worn tires both handle better, stay cooler and in most cases can run with less air.
