It's not the color, someone said if you hit one it's a DNF. That's the concern.

Sometimes they use a different camshaft for auto vs manual cars.

Have you considered taking plug 2 out and using your endoscope to see inside the cylinder? Probably a waste of time but you never know.

Ask them to rotate the crankshaft and report back, if it rotates easily the cylinders are not rusted.
